Frequently Asked Questions

What is a professional organizer?

A professional organizer is an expert in optimizing space and functionality in a home. We have an eye for aesthetics, a passion for organizing spaces, and a strong desire to help others.

We work with clients to identify best uses for home spaces and the steps needed to get there. The ultimate goal is to make clients’ lives better by helping them make the most of their space, and we achieve this through creating effective systems and processes tailored to individual needs that support the ways in which our clients want to live and work.

Clients also gain handy and sustainable practices to keep organized after professional organization services end. We don’t just show up and organize a home; we teach our ways through hands-on collaborative approaches so that clients can continue the work going forward.

Why should I hire a professional organizer?

How long does it take?

The length of time it takes to get organized depends on the size of the space, the amount of stuff in the space, how quickly you're able to make decisions, distractions during sessions, and more. (Papers take longer than objects)

Orchidz Organizing works as quickly and efficiently as possible to reach goals as well as meet needs, budget, and timeline. We can work together to create a plan that allows the process to move at a comfortable pace for you and that meets any deadlines you may have. The process will go faster if you're willing to do homework between sessions.

Will you make me throw away all my stuff?

Absolutely not! This is a very common misconception about professional organizers. We ask (sometimes tough) questions and make observations and suggestions to help you decide what is or isn't important to you, does or doesn't serve a purpose, and does or doesn't bring you joy. Purging is part of the organizing process, but YOU are the ultimate decision maker.

What is the process?

Each client is unique.

The process typically starts with a consultation (not required) in the home, over the phone, or virtually (Zoom/FaceTime, etc) for an assessment of the project(s) and to identify goals and expectations as well as come up with a plan.

We will then begin hands-on decluttering and organization of the space with the most urgent need for use/functionality

Product and systems suggestions are made

Everything you don't want in the house is removed (assistance with scheduling of donations as well)

We make follow-up/maintenance appointments at your request

Do You Provide Cleaning Services?

Would you go to the dentist for a physical exam? During organizing, sometimes shelves need wiped or a space needs vacuumed. It's normal. But for deep cleaning and repair work, Orchidz Organizing is happy to provide the names and contact info of resources and other related professionals who offer the additional services you may need.

What if I'm Embarrassed?

There's no reason to be! I'm here to help you, not to judge, make you feel embarrassed or ashamed. Collecting things is common in our culture. Most of us have too many or too much of something or many things. Aside from that, no one is perfect, and unique circumstances have led to what's going on in your home and your life. It's not easy to admit you need help, let alone allow a perfect stranger to come in and sort through all your belongings. However, that's the first step, and you should be so proud of yourself for taking it and committing to making your life easier for you to live. You deserve it!

All services are completely confidential!

Do I Need to Clean Up or Buy Anything Before The Session?

Please don't. It's important for me to see how you live. If I can see the clutter, I can help figure out how to make it a thing of the past. I won't be shocked or judge you. I recommend clients do a quick edit of their space(s) only keeping in the space the things they would like to have organized and keep there.

I also recommend having dishes, laundry, and any bulk shopping done prior to beginning.

It's best to wait until we've sorted your items before purchasing products. Sometimes clients don't need as much product as they thought they would, or we end up finding the perfect one(s) during the sorting process.

How Involved Do I Have to Be?

Your input is vital to a successful outcome. Learning how to organize yourself is key. Being involved arms you with the awareness of how your space is utilized and how to maintain organization and implemented systems in the future.

During the sorting process I can provide guidance and support, but cannot make the decisions for you, so your presence is 100% required for this. After that, I will be happy to finish the project.

Have You Ever Fired a Client?

Yes. Ever so often, people just aren't ready for the changes that have to be made.

There are also sometimes people who are rude and disrespectful. These individuals are released quick, fast, and in a hurry!
